NPCs or non-playable characters , are pilgrims you will meet along the way. Players can have different dialogues with them, and some can give you a quest that rewards gold and badges upon completion. The Merchant is an NPC that you will encounter time to time throughout your journey. He sells items that you can buy and sell him any loot you have on the chest next to his table.
A Merchant can be usually found every meters. You can sell almost any item to him by dropping them into the chest and closing it.
Keep in mind that no refunds are given! You can't sell him beast fragments like Wings from a deceased Watchwing. See Hunter below. At the end of the game, before you talk to the white orb near the "Edge" in Windrift Refuge. He can be found "packing up" and telling the player that he's closing for the day.
He says that if the player has any items they haven't sold yet, they can drop them on the chest in front of his wagon. The special thing about this encounter is that he will buy the items at a higher rate because the players are " sparing him from transportation costs ". The selling rate is x1. He sells weapons that you can use against hostile entities and subsequently flay them for fragments. You can only sell him beast fragments.
If you offer something else that isn't a fragment, he'll reply that he's not interested. Similar to the Merchant, there is also a Hunter at Windrift Refuge who will not sell anything and will buy fragments from you at a higher price. The fragment selling rate is x1. He can be found walking through the Dark Forest on either side of the road. He sells empty jars that can be used to catch Fireflies, which can then be traded to him for any items depending on the rarity of the flies caught.
