Agnes Dowd is a character in the Red Dead series, appearing as a minor character and a point of interest featured in Red Dead Redemption 2. According to the cries of her spectral form, Agnes fell in love with a man that her parents did not approve of, and would meet him by an old tree in Bluewater Marsh for secret trysts. After he impregnated Agnes with a baby boy, he abandoned her for another woman, exposing her relationship to her family, much to their disgrace, and leaving her unwanted by other male suitors.
This ultimately resulted in the elder Dowd drawing a weapon and killing her love, to Agnes' horror. Agnes can be seen as a ghost in Bluewater Marsh between 9pm and 3am, usually during foggy weather. She can be encountered 16 times and will disappear if the player character comes too close to her.
At each encounter, she will re-live the events of her life story which led to her death, which shall be in random order. In the last encounter, she will address the player character, telling him that she knew she had been watched, and invite him to come to the tree from which she hanged herself.
In his diary, Arthur will write the following beneath his drawing of Agnes: "I cannot believe I am writing this, but there's something mighty strange in that swamp. Red Dead Wiki Explore.
