Tuesday evening Governor Greg Abbott spoke in front of parents and school choice supporters at a private Christian school to make one last push for his controversial vouchers program before the Texas Senate takes up S. On Monday, a coalition of Texas Democrats spoke against vouchers following Abbott's speech, a measure Democrats helped defeat across several emergency sessions last year. They say if passed, families with means would pull their students out of public schools, and it's the ones without means who will be left behind.
Abbott says as a product of public schools himself, he promises historic investments will be made into public schools and their teachers this legislative session. But he says those investments won't mean anything if there isn't also school choice.
