Though a strong portion of Hollywood turned in stellar performances in major productions across the last year, not everyone was able to take home a golden honor among the Oscar nominations. Let this year's snub, however, be a different type of lesson for the industry: Celebrate her now. After missing out on SAG, it became clearer that Gomez was likely going to be one of those in the supporting category. The evidence was there to support a late-breaking run for, at the very least, supporting actress Jamie Lee Curtis , who earned SAG and BAFTA nominations for her turn as a cocktail waitress who gives a soaring, impromptu dance in the middle of a casino.
One of the most recognizable, beloved, and respected actresses in the game, when Nicole Kidman 's name is attached to a prestige project, awards buzz typically follows. With one victory and five total career Oscar nominations across two decades, Kidman is an enduring Academy darling. And while non-Hollywood folks anointed her as a top contender early in the race she scored notices from the National Board of Review and the Golden Globes , nearly all industry-voted awards bodies left her off of their rosters, including groups that share crossover membership with the Academy, like SAG and BAFTA.
