Is dating in SF as bad as people say? March 8, AM Subscribe I've lived in various other major cities all over the US, and am now, for the first time, considering a great job offer in SF.
I'm hesitating for one big reason: as a single straight guy in my 30s, I want to prioritize meeting women and hopefully entering into a relationship, and I've heard that, post tech boom, the dating scene in SF has become very tough. I'd love to hear people's recent experiences of the straight single scene in SF, especially as compared to other US cities. I would be living and working in downtown-ish SF or perhaps the East Bay? I work in a tech-adjacent field, and would be earning a tech-type salary.
I don't have a particularly strong friend network either in SF, or in the other places I am considering next living in - I'd be meeting people pretty much exclusively on dating apps. I've been in the Bay since , and I've used dating apps quite a bit.
It's tough out here. Especially if you're not poly, or are looking for something longer term. Both me and my friends here all comment on this. My friends in Denver and on the east coast are baffled by our stories. I have met good people on the apps though. A few medium term years relationships came from it, plus a number of solid friendships. SF is an amazing city. It's beautiful, cultured, and definitely a unique place to call home.
It's also expensive af, traffic is terrible, and fire season is scary and awful. For me, the pros outweigh the cons. It is an easier place to make friends than other cities, possibly because there are so many single people, haha.
