An operation was performed but could not help him.
He was a brave fellow. He had a wife and child in San Francisco. During the Argonne drive the boys were brought in continually in large numbers. The Red Cross people had their share of work in taking care of all these soldiers.
One little fellow was brought in with only one hand. He was the bravest little fellow I have ever seen. We had eight[y]-two wards to go into every day, and there were fifteen or sixteen men to every ward.
