Utility Menu. Results 1 to 24 of Thread: Eugene, OR - Opinions. Join Date Oct Posts I have read around and spent a week in OR making my own opiniosn btu I would like some inputs from others. What is eugene like to live in? Expected rental costs for 1 bed apt? Is there much social life? Any Mags there? Any idea what an average salary would be in software engineering?
What would be a compfortable living salary? What are realistic driving times to Mnt Bachelor? Are the closer ski areas worth it? What are the ski touring possibilities? Ease of finding touring partners? I expect all is great. Plus I wil be moving from Switzerland so might be disapointed compared to the lifestyle I once had.
I have a good friend in Richmond. I'll see to it that your GF is in good hands. I spent 3 years in Eugene in the 's while I attended law school. I enjoyed my time there. I can't comment about current cost of living, but back then it was relatively inexpensive for the PNW. It's a great place for running and bicycling.
Night life was pretty good for such a small city. The track meets at Hayward Field are the best show in town -- even the mini meets are fun. Skiing and mountain travel is too far away for me, which is why I did not consider taking a job there after law school. Lots of good touring up there too. I've never been to Willamette Pass but that's pretty close as well. I would say Bachelor is 3 hours away.
I spent a lot of time touring around Santiam pass while in school and it does have some pretty good tree skiing but it's low elevation so you rarely have great snow. I appreciate allt he comments so far. As far as small towns go, Eugene is above average interesting place to live. Lots of bums and oddly upper crust stuff. Coast is close which is nice. What kind of software are you doing?
