The hotline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A two-year-old is dead and a mother has been arrested for a preliminary neglect charge after the child was found under a dresser.
Just after p. Saturday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police were called to the block of Newberry Road on the city's northeast side at Timber Point Apartments for a report of a death investigation. There, they spoke with the mother who said she had told her 4-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter to come to come eat after she made dinner.
According to court documents, her son came, but her daughter didn't. While searching the apartment, she found her daughter underneath a dresser. The girl was unresponsive, not breathing, and cold to the touch.
The mother picked her up, went outside, called and also called her boyfriend to come to the apartment. According to court documents, officers conducted a sweep of the apartment and observed scattered trash, human feces, steak knives and soiled items on the floor to the point it was not visible.
Officers said the apartment reeked of 'rotting food' and feces covered the wall and furniture. Officers were told the mother's boyfriend had to borrow a vehicle to drive to the apartment.
